Aminoguanidine Derived N‐Rich Mesoporous Carbon Nitrides with Tunable Nitrogen Contents for Knoevenagel Condensation

Abstract Nitrogen‐rich carbon nitrides are desired materials for base‐catalysed transformations; however, their synthesis is challenging due to the volatile nature of N at high temperatures. Herein, we report on temperature‐controlled ordered N‐rich mesoporous (MCNs) via pyrolysis aminoguanidine by using SBA‐15 as a hard template. The properties and nitrogen content were tuned varying carbonization temperature in range 350–500 °C. At 350 400 °C, higher amounts could be retained MCN framework with predominant formation C 3 6 having six‐membered aromatic ring diamino‐ s ‐tetrazine moiety, whereas 5 1‐amino/imino‐1,2,4‐triazole moieties was produced 450 500 base catalytic activity MCNs Knoevenagel condensation benzaldehyde malononitrile revealed that MCN‐400 exhibited highest performance displaying 96.4 % product yield toluene solvent. superior attributed (62.6 wt%), surface area (235 m 2 g −1 ), large pore volume (0.74 cm ). optimum obtaining products 80 catalyst showed good cycling stability consecutive cycles.
